Fully Reconfigurable Lab-scale Testbed for Assistance of New Satellite Navigation System Developments

초록

With the increasing demand for accurate position, navigation, and timing (PNT) services, South Korea is developing its own satel-lite navigation system, so-called Korean positioning system (KPS). Since the design of the KPS signals is not yet finalized at the system design phase, a flexible testbed that can simulate various environmental conditions for all the legacy global navigation satellite systems (GNSSs) with freely reconfigurable signal characteristics of the KPS is highly required. For flexibility, the simulator and receiver pair that constitute the testbed can be implemented in software manner utilizing the software-defined radio (SDR) concept. Furthermore, with the proper design of the data structure and processing chain architecture of the software, it can achieve full reconfigurability which supports the free configuration for the target signal combination and characteristics of each signal. This paper introduces the fully reconfigurable lab-scale GNSS testbed developed by Inha University. The concept of full reconfigu-rability and an example are described. The graphical user interfaces and software structures of the simulator and receiver are pre-sented. Two experiments are configured using the testbed as utilization examples: KPS-only case and KPS integrated with GNSS case. Results reveal that the experiments with the testbed can reflect the theoretical property well. Also, a rough expectation of the amount of navigation performance enhancement by adding KPS to the existing GNSS is presented.
