Assessment of GNSS/KPS RF Compatibility for KPS Signal Design

In order to develop a Korean Positioning System (KPS) as part of building national infrastructure, independent navigation signal design is essential. The designed signals must coexist with existing GNSS signals and already planned signals within the limited frequency band. This requires a RF compatibility assessment, which can be performed, at the beginning of the design stage, using the Spectral Separation Coefficient (SSC), as a Figure of Merits for navigation signals. Thus, in this paper, the assessment of RF compatibility between the design signal and the existing GNSS signals is carried out based on analytical technique. However, the KPS signal candidates have not been yet proposed and fixed, the compatibility evaluation presented in this paper is performed only for several limited scenarios, taking into account frequency band, central frequency, modulation technique and code chip rate. The results presented in this paper is effective in assessing the approximated effects of the signal to be designed before evaluating actual numerical interference.
