Volatilization Properties of Pt-Au-ODS at High Temperature

Platinum group metal has good strength and volatilization properties at high temperature, so it is acceptable for structural material to fabricate the glass. Especially, as Pt-Au alloys increase a contact angle between glass and the alloy, it is easy to eliminate residual glass during glass making process. In this study, volatilization properties of Pt, Pt-20%Rh, Pt-ODS, and Pt-5%Au-ODS were conducted. Pt-Au alloys showed much poor volatilization properties than other alloys at the temperature above 1473K. It was confirmed that Au was preferentially volatilized before platinum volatilization because the vapor pressure of Au was higher than both Pt oxide and Rh oxide above 1473K. Also, the concentration gradient was occurred from surface to inside. With this situation owing to difference of diffusion rate between Au and Pt, micro pores were observed inner part of specimen.
